Panama Canal-The Eight Wonder of the World

Panama Canal-The Eight Wonder of the World

The Panama Canal is the "Eighth Wonder of the World" . The canal was cut through nearly 9 miles of solid granite at the Continental Divide.

The Panama Canal is 48 miles long and includes passage through three main locks: Miraflores 2-Stage Locks, Pedro Miguel Lock, and Gatun 3-stage Locks.

Each lock is 300 meters long, 33 meters wide, and requires 26.7 million gallons of water to fill. The water pushes vessels through the canal through gravitational force.
Almost 8,000 miles are saved by ships sailing from New York to San Francisco via the Panama Canal versus sailing around Cape Horn.

Panama Canal- I sailed through the Panama Canal on Princess Cruises and it was a cruise I will never forgot. We had a suite aft of the ship. What a terrific spot to view our canal trip.
