Bruges, Belgium - Postcard Perfect stop on any tour of Europe.

Bruges, Belgium - Postcard Perfect stop on any tour of Europe.
Bruges is a town in Flanders, the northern part of Belgium. Relatively cosmopolitan and bourgeois given its compact size, it is one of the best preserved pre-motorised cities of Europe and offers the kind of charms rarely available elsewhere.

Chocolate and lace are what Belgium is known for. The Chocolate shops are plentiful here and the standard is always high. There are plenty of arts and crafts shops too, with some excellent local artists.

The Grote Markt (the big square) and Belfry Climb are famous in Bruges, Belgium. You can climb the 366 steps to the top of the 83-metre high tower for excellent views of the city.

There are plenty of tour boats, horse drawn carts, to take you on a tour around the canals. The multilingual guides provide a potted history of the city in just a few minutes. For a few Euros, it is the best introduction to Bruges.
