Punta Arenas, Chile- The southernmost city of Earth.

Punta Arenas, Chile is the southernmost city on earth.

Punta Arenas (literally in Spanish: "Sands Point" ) is the largest settlement on the Strait of Magellan. The weather can be unpredictable here! Usually you can get rain, wind, and sun all in the same day!

The city of Punta Arenas is a hub for many cruise ships that travel along the channels and fjords of the region. This city is also a jumping-off point for many Antarctic expeditions.

An interesting sight to see in Punta Arenas is a full size replicas of the Nao Victoria. This ship was the first ship to successfully circumnavigate the world. The replica of the Nao Victoria was opened in October 2011 as a museum.

This city is built around its main square "Plaza de Armas" where the imposing monument of Hernando de Magallanes is located. According to local legend if a tourist touches his foot it will return once again to the city.

In general, Punta Arenas is compact and walkable. It can be windy though! You won't want to miss visiting this southernmost city!
