Strait of Magellan-Sea Route south of the mainland South America

Strait of Magellan is the Sea Route south of mainland South America

Wildlife and glaciers are all apart of the Strait of Magellan. There is a protected area for Humpback Whales.

The Strait of Magellan is the most important natural passage between the Pacific and Atlantic ocean.  It can be difficult to navigate because of unpredictable winds and currents. But your cruise ship is up to the challenge!

The northwestern portion of the strait is connected with other sheltered waterways via the Smyth Channel. This area is similar to the Inside Passage of Alaska.

Until the Panama Canal opened in 1914, the Strait of Magellan was the main route for steamships traveling from the Atlantic to the Pacific Oceans. It was often considered the only safe way to move between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
